Cataract is a disease in which the original clear and transparent lens becomes cloudy and affects vision. When the lens becomes turbid, the light is not completely transmitted and the vision is reduced.
Causes of cataract:
- aging of the eyes
- Others: 1. Drugs (eg steroids) 2. Metabolic diseases (eg diabetes, thyroid disease) 3. Eye diseases (eg glaucoma, retinal pigmentation) 4. Trauma
- Congenital / hereditary
Symptoms of cataract:
- Blurred vision - sensitive to strong light
- The color of the image is dark
- often need to change the glasses
How to treat cataracts :
Surgery is the only effective way to treat cataracts. To date, there is no evidence that drugs or lasers can treat cataracts. If the cataract is not too severe and does not have a significant impact on vision, it may not require any treatment or surgery at all. However, depending on the patient's individual circumstances, the ophthalmologist will work with the patient to decide when surgery is needed, without waiting for the cataract to be fully mature.
